6. EcoTech Radion G5

Best Nano Reef Light

There’s a reason big coral vendors like World Wide Corals and top reef professionals use EcoTech Radion G5 to light up their reef tanks. Two reasons: full spectrum power and manageability.

EcoTech Radion’s controllability is unmatched in the industry. Radion’s LED lights are powered by a cloud-based command center known as EcoSmart Live that runs in a web browser. The software updates the lighting system automatically and several lighting modes are available for many hobbyists.

The separately available Reeflink allows you to connect your Radions via a smartphone instead of the standard USB functionality that comes with the unit. The spectrum of the lights can be changed, the intensity can be adjusted, the lighting schedule can be changed. It really is unlimited flexibility with these units.

7. Ocean Revive 247-B

Best Nano Reef Light

The Ocean Revive T247-B is a black box in value, but not in appearance. Much cheaper than EcoTech Radions and AI Hydra, this unit can compete with Hydras in strength and what it can grow, as evidenced by the light of choice from Pacific East Aquaculture, a Maryland licensed coral aquaculture facility that has been offering high quality corals to reef keepers since 2000.

Knowing that facilities and even some LFS (to save money but will still try to sell you Radions and Hydras ^ _ ^) use these units says a lot about them. They have the power to breed all kinds of corals, from soft corals and anemones to Acroporas, and the device comes in a sturdy package that doesn’t seem cheap.

4.1/5 STARS

Benefits

  • Full spectrum lighting
  • Dimmable LEDs
  • Built in timer
  • Value for money

Cons

  • Source of power is only battery
  • Poor customer service reported

8. Viparspectra LEDs

Viparspectra LED Aquarium Light is their traditional “Chinese black box”, but they have a more trusted brand and recognition in the industry. What I like about these lights is that there are many success stories using these lights on mixed reefs and SPS tanks. The main reason they can work in SPS tanks is how powerful they are.

The PAR output of these LED lights is in Radion territory. So you are getting a cheap light with the power behind that with field proven cases where they have grown and corals are harder to maintain. The price of this LED light is hard to beat!

4.5 STARS

Benefits

  • Full spectrum lighting
  • Internal timer
  • Dimmable feature
  • 1 year warranty
  • High speed quiet fans

Cons

  • Some reports that white light aspect is too bright

9. Current USA Orbit Marine IC Pros

First of all, we have the current US Orbit Marine IC professionals. This light comes with its own controller that can not only power the aquarium LED system itself, but also control the Orbit Marine EFlux Wavemaker and EFlux Return Pump for a fully integrated package. I feel these IC Pros are their best value with their 72″ model as it represents a VERY attractive purchase for those using 6 foot long mixed reef tanks.

The Current USA Orbit Marine controller works with a remote control and is quite easy to use and program. It comes with an up and down ramp function, which is a standard 2 hour up and down ramp. You can adjust the day, sunset and night settings so that your reef tank can adjust the lighting accordingly as the day progresses.

In combination with the Eflux Wavemaker you can adjust the flow and use the spin setting when using 2 wavemakers and even use a flow function that turns off the pumps while feeding. There are other features of the LED aquarium lighting such as a lighting and cloudy weather, but I think they are more for the cool factor than the function.

4.4/5 STARS

Benefits

  • Full spectrum lighting
  • Bright lighting with mix of colors
  • Built in programming for realistic effects (eg shimmer)
  • Built in wave pump controller

Cons

  • Some quality issues

10. Hipargergo Aqua Knight LED Aquarium Light

If you are building a nano reef or similar with a reef tank under 40 gallons, the Hipargergo Aqua Knight is a good consideration for your light of choice. It’s a very affordable light, being the cheapest unit on this list, but also very powerful and capable of being used in most mixed reef setups.

It is a small aquarium lamp with a small light spread, making it a perfect lamp for nano reef aquariums under 40 gallons. What I really love about this LED bulb is that the manufacturer stands behind their bulbs with a 30-day money-back guarantee and is happy to answer your questions 24/7. You really can’t go wrong with this light if you have a smaller reef tank. Improper Reefer has even used this light in their 10-gallon nano reef construction.

Hiparergo Aqua Knight LED Insufficient refrigerator The biggest disadvantage of this aquarium lamp is its size. This is a very affordable LED light but only works for nano reef tanks. Touch sensitivity can be annoying because they are not always read properly when you touch them. It’s so bad that sometimes you have to pray for the light to read your touches.

Finally, while it comes with a rim mount, the mount itself may be too long for some nano reef setups. Overall, though, this is the pick if you’re building a nano reef and short on offerings from brands like AI Prime HD and Kessil A80.

4.3/5 STARS

Benefits

  • High quality LEDs
  • Professional spectrum
  • 2 dimmable LED channels
  • Touch controls
  • Premium materials
  • Super thin body
  • 1 year warranty
  • Sunrise/sunset settings

How to Select Right Nano Reef Lighting Option

When choosing a lamp for a nano reef tank, it is important to note that lighting is more than just making the tank look pretty. Coral depends on the right lighting to grow, so you need to make sure you choose the right one.

It is important to give the coral enough light, but not too much. Although corals need light to survive, too much can damage them. In fact, too much light can kill them in just a few days.

That said, you don’t want to surprise them with drastic light changes either, so turning the lights on and off can also be too much.

Dimmable

By using a dimmable lamp, you have more control. Alternatively, you can choose a lamp with an automatic day and night cycle. This creates a more natural environment and a slow transition from day to night that the coral will love.

Also note how the lamp is installed. We have options that snap to the edge of the tank, a clamp on the table that holds the tank and a light that sits over the tank. Each of these designs has its advantages.

Placing the light on the side of the tank is easy and gives you a fair amount of control over where the light source is placed. Some have goosenecks so you can position the light the same way. With others, you can only move the light up and down or side to side.

The lamps that attach to the table top are some of the most versatile. You can place them anywhere around the table and the gooseneck design allows you to change the angle and place them exactly where you need them.

Strip lights are the least customizable, but they can be very effective depending on your settings. They sit on top of the tank and provide the same lighting from one end to the other.

There really is no right or wrong installation, but some may suit your tank better than others. Choose the one that best suits your setup.

One more thing, making sure to choose a waterproof lamp made of aluminum or other durable and lightweight material is also important. The better the material, the longer the light will last.

Best Nano Reef Tank LED Lights FAQs

How many watts of LED lighting do I need for a reef tank?

The amount of watts of LED lighting you need will depend on the size of your marine aquarium and the type of coral you will be keeping. Most LED systems are actually PAR dominated for many corals. It is mainly about the footprint. The vast majority of systems have a 24 x 24 footprint. Measure your PAR at the tank for best results.

Can you grow coral with LED lighting?

Yes, you can grow coral with LED lighting. Many professional aquaculture producers and suppliers now use LED systems to grow corals. This is due to cost savings through lower energy costs.

Which light spectrum is best for corals?

Blue and violet have been shown to be the best light spectrum for corals. Many of these lights in this roundup have the correct spectrum for growing corals. Ensuring that the manufacturer you select has done proper R&D and that field results are available from another hobbyist will instill confidence in your purchase.

What is the best lighting scheme for a reef tank?

For a reef tank, I would recommend 8-10 hours in your lighting schedule to get started. You can adjust from there as you get a feel for your tank. Systems with acceleration and deceleration functions can be switched on for longer as the intensity will be very intense during the day.

Final Thoughts

When choosing a Best Nano Reef Light, it is important to note that you are looking for something more than just decorative. Coral relies on the right type of light to thrive, so choosing the right one is important.

There are several designs to choose from and the best one is the one that best suits your setup. Some need a more accurate and adjustable light, while others would do well with the same light throughout the tank.

Remember that too much light can be deadly to a reef tank, so it’s also very important to choose one that dims the light or has an automatic day-to-night cycle to create a more natural environment.

Including most of the kit you’ll need to get started, this mini CO2 regulator is best used with smaller tanks and is compatible with regular diffusers and atomizers.

Its reliability is met with mixed reception. Some people claim it’s hard to pin down your ideal call rate, but once you’ve found it, it stays constant; others claim it is constantly changing.

The overall build quality is not for me; I prefer a solid stainless steel or brass construction. It is made from a mix of plastic and steel, which reduces its overall durability.

The solenoid valve is cheap and made in China, but it uses a light indicator.

7. Up Aqua CO2 Regulator

Very durable, it is made of strong brass so it is built to last.

The needle valve needs adjustment, but once it’s in place, it delivers a consistent and reliable output.

9. Fzone Triple Stage CO2 Regulator

Three stage control provides stable current and output.

This smaller size regulator may be the perfect fit for smaller tank stands.

Some users have complained that the bubble counter needle valve can leak, requiring frequent adjustments to seal.

But overall, the Fzone is praised for its reliability.

It is made of aluminum. So better than plastic drives, but not the optimal steel or brass.

Also, the few meters are small and not the easiest to read. Also, there is no light in the solenoid, I am not crazy about that.

But it can work with 5-pound tanks and it also includes an adapter for use with paintball cylinders.

The setting can be adjusted from 0 to 60 PSI.

Benefits of Using Best CO2 Regulator in Your Aquarium Fish Tank

1. Healthy Plant Life

It is a well-known fact that plants and fish must coexist in balance. Plants thrive on the carbon dioxide (CO2) that fish exhale.

In return, the fish feed on plant material and also seek shelter under the plants. However, too little or too much CO2 will affect both fish and plants.

Advantages of using a co2 regulator in an aquarium

Side effects of the absence of carbon dioxide include stunted plants or pale stems and leaves.

In this case, the plants will also not be able to provide sufficient supplements to the fish or properly aerate the environment. The best way to avoid these negative conditions is to install a good CO2 system or regulator.

2. Healthy Fish

Carbon dioxide plays an indispensable role in the life of fish and other aquatic life. Too little can harm your fish and possibly lead to their untimely death.

Fish give off carbon dioxide when they breathe. Too high a carbon dioxide level in the water increases toxicity and affects the pH balance.

But unless you have an exceptional ability to detect CO2 levels, you are likely to see dead or sick fish. A CO2 system helps to keep CO2 at a moderate level, reducing its negative impact.

3. Fight Algae Growth

n fact, algae are one of the biggest threats to fish. It affects the life of fish by causing an unhealthy condition that can cause infections in fish and other plants.

Studies show that CO2 contributes to algae growth and an abundance of ammonia, which is dangerous for fish. Installing a CO2 regulator in the aquarium to control the carbon dioxide level will help prevent these unwanted effects.

It may sound simple, but the value of a decent CO2 regulator is clear. It improves water quality, improves plant and fish welfare and controls algae growth.

However, you should know that not all CO2 systems are created equal. That is why you should buy high quality CO2 regulators and systems from reputable distributors.

How to Choose the Best CO2 Regulator for Aquarium?

Below, we’ll show you what we think are the most important features to consider when looking for the best CO2 regulator for your aquarium. Some of the features to consider are discussed below:

1. Usability

In general, installing a CO2 regulator is quite simple. This is usually as simple as plugging in a few tubes and turning a few knobs.

However, you may want to spend some time making adjustments to get the ideal amount of CO2. Good to know that even the best CO2 system needs some adjustments. However, you don’t want to go to extremes with this.

2. Readability

This refers to how easily you can read the gauges. If you know that your vision is not as good as it used to be, we recommend that you look for a CO2 regulator with a reasonably easy-to-read meter.

3. Is the system double stage?

If you are a novice when it comes to CO2 regulators, you should know this factor best. The two-stage CO2 system consists of two regulators in one. The primary stage lowers the pressure to a constant PSI and the second stage makes smaller adjustments.

This prevents variations due to the change of PSI in the aquarium. Both phases will provide a significant level of protection.

The truth is that single stage CO2 regulators are more affordable and often work flawlessly. However, it can be risky and it can be quite difficult to get a consistent and reliable result.

4. Compatibility:

This is solely dependent on your circumstances. If you are going to use your CO2 system for several tanks, you will need to purchase one that is compatible with CO2 cylinders (5 pounds). Otherwise, always replace your regulator.

On the other hand, if you find it difficult to get hold of the CO2 cylinders or if you only need it for a single tank, one option is to look for a regulator that is highly compatible with regular (24 oz) paintball cylinders. . These are also quite easy to obtain.

5. Materials

Premium materials ensure it lasts a long time. And most people prefer not to put resources into equipment that can break easily. Brass and stainless steel are your best options.

Why You Need a CO2 Regulator

If you want to keep aquarium plants healthy, you probably need a CO2 injection, as it plays a crucial role in plant photosynthesis.

I’m not going to go into much detail about photosynthesis because I think you probably already know how it works.

Here’s what you need to know:

In nature, plants will extract their CO2 in large quantities from the natural subsoil (silt, etc.) and degrading plants.

In your closed aquarium, however, CO2 is limited, tap water is converted into CO2 and the degradation of plants is minimal.

That is why you have to make up for this lack of CO2 with an injector. But you have to regulate it.

In addition to wasting your money (you’re injecting more than you need), too much CO2 can lead to algae growth because your plants can’t use the CO2 fast enough to compete with the algae.

Or it could kill your fish, as the high CO2 content displaces oxygen and suffocates your fish.

Now every aquarium setup is different. The amount of CO2 you need depends on a number of factors:

  • Volume of your tank
  • Type and number of plants you own
  • How much light do you give your plants?
  • The amount of fish in your aquarium.
  • Amount of water movement

Determining how much CO2 your tank needs may require some adjustments. The best and fastest way to do this is to use a drop tester.

A drop checker is a simple device made of glass or plastic.

It settles in your tank and with a solution in it, the CO2 will leak from the water in the drop checker and cause a reaction, causing the solution to change color:

  • Blue = not enough CO2
  • Green = CO2 levels are correct
  • Yellow = too much CO2

Conclusion

Finding the right CO2 system or controller is essential to make your fish or plants feel more comfortable in your home. We are happy to show you our roundup of the Best Aquarium CO2 Regulator on the market today.

We consider overall review score and affordability. We know that finding the ideal CO2 regulator for a planted aquarium is no easy task with many brands and we believe our top picks above will narrow your path to making the right choice.

9. American Marine PINPOINT pH Controller

The Pinpoint pH controller uses a high quality pH probe to continuously monitor the pH in marine and freshwater aquariums.

You select the high and low setpoints. When one of the set points is reached, the corresponding outlet is switched on.

This is ideal for controlling a carbon dioxide system. When the pH is high, the controller turns on the carbon dioxide system.
Turn off the CO2 system when the pH is in the desired range. If the pH is too acidic due to excess CO2, the second output is turned on, usually activating an air pump to expel the carbon dioxide gas.

The Pinpoint pH controller can also be used to control the addition of “Kalkwasser” based on the pH value.

The Pinpoint controller is easy to set up and use. The controller uses high-quality materials for the housing, buttons and sockets.

Benefits of Best Aquarium Controller and Monitoring System

Depending on the type of controller you use, its biggest advantage is that it can detect a problem as soon as it boots up. It also helps maintain a more uniform environment and allows you to have a little more interference between cleanings and tests.

One of the best things about these devices is that there are different types of controllers and monitors available.

You can even find products that monitor and control all of the following:

  • To turn on
  • Temperature, both heating and cooling
  • pH
  • Salinity
  • water movement

The first thing to decide is what to check. That usually depends on the type of tank you have.

For example, if you have a small 5-gallon aquarium with a few small fish, you could take advantage of something that turns the light on and off automatically.

Water motion controllers are also great for larger tanks because they are designed to mimic the natural underwater environment and can help keep your aquarium as healthy and natural as possible.

That said, if you have a larger, more delicate reef tank, you might want to consider something that can monitor salinity and pH to maintain a balance between regular cleaning or testing. For heavily planted tanks, it may also be helpful to use a controller that regulates pH and corrects with carbon dioxide.

One thing to be careful of when installing any appliance in your tank is what happens if there is a power outage. While your tank can survive if the lights don’t come on at a preset time, if you’re relying on a controller to adjust pH or salinity, the power issues can be a bit more urgent.

It is also important to note that while these machines can alert you and help you solve some problems, they are not a substitute for proper maintenance. You should always be actively involved with your tank, so you still need to monitor all parameters that these machines don’t have.

Second, there is always the possibility that controllers and monitoring systems are not working properly, so you should regularly check that they are working properly. It is also helpful to use a product with good technical support personnel who can help you solve problems.

Aquarium Controller FAQs

What is an aquarium controller?

An aquarium controller is a computing device that works on your aquarium monitoring equipment. It also automates various maintenance tasks and is highly customizable to your tank configuration and needs. They usually send alerts and text messages to your phone if a problem is detected and can also shut down your computer in an emergency.

What happened to Digital Aquatics?

Digital water sports closed its doors in 2018 and ceased all activities. They were known for creating entry-level aquarium controllers. The new Hydros Control 2 is considered a successor to the Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper as it has a similar price and updated technology.

Do I need an aquarium controller?

You don’t need an aquarium controller to be successful in the hobby. Before the innovation of controller technology, there were and still are many new configurations that are successful without a controller. A controller offers a lot of automation and monitoring, so that you have to do less maintenance on the aquarium. It also gives you peace of mind when you are away from the tank. Considering the price of livestock these days, the investment is worth it if you have thousands invested in your tank.

What does an apex controller do?

An Apex controller can do many things in your aquarium, but it’s best to focus on the core functionality to see what makes them so great. They can turn off your heater if it isn’t working properly, preventing you from having a tank crash. They can detect leaks, monitor the water level, and shut down any equipment or tank before your home is damaged by a tank water flood. You can monitor your tank while on vacation. You can set automatic dosing to keep your aquarium stable for your precious corals.

One of the biggest benefits of being willing to go through an installation is the automated water change. With the right settings, a controller can fully automate the water change function, making your tank work almost automatically.

Conclusion

Using the Best Aquarium Monitoring System Controllers system is a great way to make sure everything is taken care of between cleanings and when you are away from home. Since there are so many options to choose from, you can pick the one that best suits your schedule and setup.

Whether you want a simple timer that can turn your aquarium light on and off or something that can maintain proper pH levels, there’s a system for you. The important thing to note is that these systems are not a substitute for practical maintenance and care.

When these products are used to facilitate tank maintenance, they can save you a lot of time and keep everything in order when you are away.

Best Sand for Reef Tank Reviews

1. CaribSea Arag-Alive Fiji Pink Sand

Best Sand For Reef Tank

One of the best things about this Fiji Pink sand from CaribSea is that it is packed with millions of good bacteria before you even put it in an aquarium.

There are heterotrophic, autotrophic and chemilithotrophic bacteria that help reduce waste and shorten the cycle time generally required when installing a new tank.

In fact, it is specially designed to avoid all the problems that arise with a new tank and acts as a nitrate filter, ammonia reducer and biological filter in one.

It is beautiful enough to use alone, but you can also use it with another substrate to quickly add beneficial bacteria to the aquarium. A water purifier is included to quickly clean the water when it first enters the tank. It is also specially made to maintain the growth of bacterial colonies.

Ideal for large colonies to attach to, the surface contains a source of calcium, carbonate and trace elements to balance pH without adding additional chemicals.

One more thing, this substrate never needs to be replaced. It works with the natural bacteria in the aquarium to keep your reef happy and healthy.

2. CaribSea Ocean Direct Substrates

Best Sand For Reef Tank

CaribSea uses a cold preservation process with this Ocean Direct substrate. Each grain of sand is covered in bacteria that came straight from the ocean when it was collected.

3. Carib Sea Aragonite Aquarium Sand

Best Sand For Reef Tank

This aragonite sand from the Caribbean Sea is a perfect natural substrate for reef aquariums. Provides a natural balance of bacteria and minerals needed to maintain water balance.

Believe it or not, this sand keeps the pH at 8.2 without constantly adding chemicals to the water.

That’s not all.

For every pound of this sand, there is 10,000 square inches of surface for beneficial bacteria to grow. This provides a natural way to control nitrate, ammonia and other harmful waste.

4. Nature’s Ocean No.0 Bio-Activ Live Aragonite Live Sand for Aquarium

5. Carib Sea Arag-Alive Substrate

Best Sand For Reef Tank

Another Caribbean Sea winner, this live black aragonite sand does a great job of highlighting the colorful coral in your tank. Like other branded products, it contains millions of beneficial bacteria to aid in biological filtration, resulting in an ideal environment for tetras, angelfish, cichlids, and even turtles, but it works just as well in a reef tank. The company’s trademarked Arag-Alive substrate also promotes coral growth, which is high in calcium, strontium and carbonate, and helps remove nitrates from the environment. Available in a 20lb bag, the sand contains a biomagnetic clarifier to reduce turbidity when placed in your tank.

Customers write that this sand is about 80% black, with some white and red sand mixed in. In other words, it’s dark enough for your tank’s colors to come out. The consistency is heavier than several other variants, but not like gravel; buyers liken it to the texture of sugar candy, which prevents it from flying off the bottom of the tank. If you’re looking for live sand that makes a strong visual statement, this is a solid option.

6. TWO LITTLE FISHIES Sand Live Coarse Reef 15lb

Why use coarse sand? For example, the larger grain size reduces the build-up of debris in your tank, and some critters (such as certain crustaceans) will appreciate the ability to dig and build. We recommend the coarse reef sand of Two Little Fishies, which consists of white aragonite, calcified algae flakes and even small coral skeletons. It’s also packed with the company’s BioPronto live microbes, giving you the same kind of biological filtration found in most other live sand products.

Two Little Fishies Live Coarse Reef Sand does not require rinsing and any cloudiness in your tank should clear after a few hours. The granules have an average size of three millimeters, large enough not to be thrown around your tank. It comes with natural seawater and is sold in 15lb bags.

How Much Sand Do You Need for a Reef Tank?

The depth of your sand bed is an important consideration when setting up a reef tank and you don’t want to get more or less sand than you need. So how do you find out what the right amount is?

How to calculate the amount of sand per gallon?

To know exactly how much sand you need in your tank, you need to know the depth of the sand bed you want to create and the dimensions of the tank bottom.

But there is an easier way to get an approximation by just using the tank volume. The volume of your tank in gallons is approximately equal to the amount of sand in pounds it takes to make a 1 inch bed. So if you have a 10-gallon tank, 10 pounds of dry sand is enough for an inch bed.

shallow vs. Deep sand beds

There is much debate in the aquarist community as to whether a shallow bed, between ¼” and 2″, or a deep bed, between 3 ½” and 6″ or more, is better.

Shallow sand beds remain oxygenated at all times, so to avoid nitrogen buildup that could alter the chemistry of the water in your tank, you should siphon the bed about once a month.

On the other hand, deep beds do not have oxygen at the bottom of the bed, which allows bacteria to facilitate denitrification so that the nitrogen balance in the tank is self-correcting.

Therefore, deep beds require little or no maintenance and can even be damaged by intensive cleaning.

In general, avoid sand beds between 2†and 3 ½â€; Beds at this depth will allow toxic chemicals like hydrogen sulfide to build up and back up into the tank water, which can be quite harmful to your aquarium.

How to Keep Your Sand Clean in a Reef Tank?

Reef sand is very different from most other substrates. You really don’t have to change it often. Instead, it’s ideal to add a few animals to your reef tank to turn over the live sand. These creatures are affectionately called janitors, keepers, or cleaners. Some good options are hermit crabs, shrimp, gobies, or jaw fish.

Be sure to research these creatures before putting them in your tank, as they can’t all live together in peace. If you get the right mix of janitors, you won’t have to clean the sand thoroughly.

That said, it’s still important to maintain a clean surface. Use an aquarium vacuum cleaner or siphon to clean up any food or debris. Make sure you also get everything that is hidden between stones or plants.

Conclusion

A reef tank requires a perfectly balanced tank that can be difficult to get to. That’s why it’s important to use the right sand as a substrate when building your tank environment. We looked at several great options, all natural sand collected from the ocean floor with its colonies of beneficial bacteria intact.

Using the best reef sand will not only make your aquarium look beautiful, it will also be less work for you. By supplying the beneficial bacteria that water needs, sand helps keep the water clean and pH balanced without the use of chemicals. Add some janitors to the tank and they will do the job of removing the sand for you. All you need to do is use an aquarium vacuum or siphon to remove debris from the sand surface if necessary. That is! Without changing or washing the substrate, without rotating water.

Our pick for the best sand for reef tanks is Carib Sea Arag-Alive Pink Fiji Sand. It looks great and it also has all the elements you need to keep your tank water clean, pH balanced and free of contaminants. This substrate never needs to be replaced and no additional chemicals need to be added to the water. It will continue to help your aquarium to thrive throughout life.

When you look at Mame’s nanoprotein skimmer, the small size and design immediately catches your eye. If you want to maximize the space your tank has to offer, this may be the best option for you.

The housing of the Mame nano skimmer is remarkably thin, which means it can be stored out of the way and won’t distract the aquatic life in your tank. We are talking about a 3.9 by 3.9 by 11.4 inch footprint here!

Another thing we like about the Mame nano skimmer is the aesthetics of the entire device. It’s a joy to see and the sleek design means you can put it in any tank and it looks fantastic.

The simple glass case that Mame chose is something we wish other manufacturers would try with their own products. Even the clip you use to mount the nano skimmer on your aquarium is transparent, so it really fits!

When it comes to functionality and cleaning efficiency, this mini protein skimmer doesn’t disappoint either. The Mame nano skimmer creates air bubbles in the glass body that carry foam and unwanted debris to the top of the tube. 9. The AquaMaxx Ws-1

It wouldn’t be an aquarium products checklist if we didn’t have AquaMaxx! If you’re looking for a nanoprotein skimmer that impresses and comes from a long-trusted manufacturer, consider the AquaMaxx Ws-1.

This nano skimmer mimics the design of your larger protein skimmers that have performed pretty well for years. Don’t fix what’s not broken, right?

In terms of cleaning efficiency, the Ws-1 is probably as good as it can be when it comes to handling nanotanks. As long as you put it in a tank that holds less than 65 gallons, it will do its job with ease.

Not only that, but this is a nanoprotein skimmer that will last you a long time, too. AquaMaxx is a reliable manufacturer and since your nanotank won’t brave the skimmer, it will likely use it solidly before it needs to be replaced.

The main problem with this nano skimmer is that it has to be housed in a collection bin. This makes this impossible for many nano tank owners. One of the main reasons people get small tanks is primarily because of the convenience and limited space, which is why sinks are not very common.

However, if you have a receptacle with your nanotank and you want something that can easily remove organic materials, then you should definitely consider the Ws-1.

10. Innovative Marine Skimmate Ghost Protein Skimmer

The Innovative Marine Skimmate is available in three sizes. The super small “desktop” version is designed for tanks of twenty gallons or less, making it one of the smallest nanoprotein skimmers you can find. The slightly more robust “Medium” model is suitable for tanks of 40 liters or less, making it also suitable for many nano tanks.

With a very simple skimmer design, things like installation and cleaning are no problem.

However, having the Skimmate under control gave many customers a headache. These nano skimmers can be extremely sensitive to the creation of a large volume of micro bubbles in your aquarium. The correct settings can minimize this problem, but even when installed correctly, the Skimmate appears to produce a significant amount of micro bubbles compared to other nano protein skimmers.

For those who manage to tame the Skimmate, it can really free up some space in your tank as the desktop version is truly one of the smallest protein skimmers on the market. They also operate extremely quietly, consuming only 6.5 watts of electricity.

How to Set Up a Nano Protein Skimmer?

The first thing you need to do is check the capacity of the protein skimmer. You need to make sure it is correctly marked for your tank. Always make sure that the capacity is greater than the volume of the aquarium.

With some protein skimmers, most parts would be assembled. You may need to assemble the remaining parts before installing them in the tank. See the assembly process in the manual to get it right.

That’s why you need a Chiller to bring the aquarium temperature within the correct range for your fish species.

So what are the best aquarium Chillers?

Anyone who has never used an aquarium Chiller would have this question in mind. Well, don’t let that worry you that much as we can see below some of the best coolers you can get for your tank.

The summer of 69 may be the best days in Bryan Adam’s life, but not in general for people like us. Summer is generally a difficult time to get through if you live in warm areas such as the southern United States or South Asian countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. And when you think of those fish, aquatic plants and corals that live in hot water all day, you will realize that summer is actually a poker-faced nightmare. An aquarium in a warm climate may require an aquarium Chiller to maintain stable temperatures.

Keep in mind that aquariums should under no circumstances exceed 83 ° F. At a water temperature of 83 ° F or higher, the oxygen level in the aquarium water begins to decrease and this leads to a stressful competitive situation for fish and inmates to oxygenate. to gain. Fear this can lead to the death of your aquarium inhabitants.

For optimal health of your fish and other aquarium species, it is recommended that you keep them within an acceptable water temperature range. For example, tropical fish and marine aquarium fish have an acceptable range of 72 ° to 80 ° F (optimal is 78 ° F), Fancy Tail Goldfish have an acceptable range of 65 ° to 72 ° F, and Common Goldfish have an acceptable range. from 65º to 68º F.

If you will be away from home all day, which of course you do for office reasons, classes or just to run errands, DO NOT keep your aquariums in a place that is in direct contact with the sun. This will lead to more algae growth that is difficult to clean. Then you already realize that maintaining the optimal aquarium water temperature is vital. Here are some of the best, cheapest, and fastest methods for lowering the temperature of your tank water in the summer.

Below you’ll learn how to best use them and discover our top picks for the best aquarium Chiller.

Flow rate

It is important that you get the right model with the best flow rate. The flow often determines how well the cooler can maintain the temperature of the aquarium water. You need the chiller to have the right flow, not too fast or too slow.

Energy consumption

The cooler is powered by electricity, so people sometimes worry about how much power they would use. Coolers are often designed to use less energy, so they can be useful for keeping the water temperature within the correct range. It doesn’t hurt to compare different models to find one that uses less energy.

Aquarium capacity

The current usually goes hand in hand with the capacity of the aquarium. It is always better to buy a model that has the correct flow rate for the capacity of the aquarium.

Do not use a model intended for small aquariums in large aquariums as this will not be effective. Most manufacturers include this number in the product description so that you know where to use the cooler.

The Construction

You need a model that will last for many years. This requires checking the construction material used to make the cooler. Most would be made of plastic materials with some metal parts. You have to make sure that even the plastic part lasts a long time, which will give you value for money.

Refrigerant

Today many people are concerned about the environment. That’s why you will find them by taking the time to find an environmentally friendly refrigerant.

Well, most aquarium coolers move in that direction too. First, consider the different types of refrigerants used in the chiller and see if it is good for the environment.

Noise level during operation

Nobody wants to end up with a chiller that makes a lot of noise while running. So check out what other people say about the operating sound you can expect from the model before purchasing.

Some may have tinnitus, which may not be a bad thing at first, but it can become irritating over time. Fan noise can be tolerated as it is not always easy to find a cool box without a little operating noise.

This cooler comes from a trusted brand that specializes in commercial grade aquarium and hydroponic products for professionals and hobbyists at a reasonable price.

While these coolers are technically designed for use with hydroponic tanks, they are also perfect for freshwater or saltwater fishing.

9. PETZILLA

Best Aquarium Chillers

For the budget conscious fish farmer, the Petzilla Aquarium Cooler Cooling System is the best option.

This small nano aquarium cooler is inexpensive and will keep your small aquarium cool and healthy for a long time. This little cooler works for both fresh and salt water, so whatever kind of fish you have, you’re in luck.

The Petzilla Aquarium cooling system attaches to the wall of your aquarium to lower the temperature by up to 7 degrees Fahrenheit.

The fan system has two variable speeds with a wide angle of entry and a stable and strong clamp to allow the perfect positioning to cool your tank.

  • Type: fresh or salt water
  • Tank size: 10 gallons or less per fan
  • Horsepower: unknown
  • BTU rating: unknown
  • Cooling capacity: cools up to 7 degrees

The fan is an easy-to-install option that requires no assembly. Just clip the nano aquarium cooler to the side of your tank, plug it in and watch it move.

The system uses evaporation to lower temperatures, rather than refrigerants like those used by other chillers. And if one fan is not enough, you can run up to 6 fans in one unit for cooling.

The cooling system comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a one-year warranty with free user support.

The only downside I found with this system is that since it uses evaporation to cool the water in your tank, you have to add more water quite often.

Also, the aquarium walls must be less than 0.5 inch thick to support the clamp size on Petzilla Chiller.

What is the Best Aquarium Chiller?

The JBJ Aquarium Arctica titanium chiller is one of the best chillers you can get on the market today. It comes with all the important features you can want in a chiller.

It is quiet in use, so you can store it in the living room without worrying about your comfort. With its highly efficient capacitor, it can consume less energy compared to other models.

How Does an Aquarium Chiller Work?

An aquarium Chiller works by taking the heat from the water and then transferring it to another location, such as the surrounding area. This process is often referred to as heat exchange. The cooler would have components such as the heat exchanger, expansion valve, compressor and a condenser coil.

The cooling cycle starts at the heat exchanger where the refrigerant takes the heat from the aquarium water circulating in the unit. Usually you will get a heat exchanger made of titanium, which is resistant to corrosion even when used for seawater aquariums.

The compressor then pumps the refrigerant vapor to reach the condenser when it cools down and then returns it to the heat exchanger to extract more heat from the aquarium water.

How to install an aquarium Chiller ?

The installation depends on the type of chiller. Basic types include a direct cooler and an inline cooler. The direct cooler has a heat exchanger that you place in the crankcase to operate. It’s that simple.

The in-line cooler has water through it to cool it down before circulating back to the aquarium. You must choose a model with the correct flow rate so that the water in the tank can be easily maintained.

Refer to the cooler’s manual for more instructions and tools you will need for the job.

Where do you place the aquarium Chiller?

Most aquarium Chiller are compact and take up less space. It should be easy to find multiple spaces to put them.

Make sure the Chiller is close to the aquarium water so that the water easily stays within the correct temperature range.

How to clean the aquarium Chiller ?

Begin by disconnecting the water line connections to the aquarium Chiller as the first step. You must do the same with the electrical connection.

For a model used for fresh water, cleaning should be easy. Simply rinse the Chiller with clean water. As for the one used with salt water, there may be some limescale build-up on the side.

There’s no question about that anymore, because this guide has the solution. You can learn more about aquarium wave formers and choose the right model at the end of the guide.

When I first walked into the aquariums, I didn’t quite understand what the wave makers were.

Why spend good money on something that seems useless? There will be no surfers in my tank so thank you but no thanks.

But then some experienced patients pointed out to me that wave generators and power head units are actually useful in a number of ways, and therefore are often a regular part of any aquarium.

Technology has come a long way since I started with aquariums. There used to be standard power heads that distributed a fixed current and current in your water column.

You now have these elements, called wave makers, that provide a wider and more powerful flow of water in your tank. There are even DC wave generators that offer many control functions and less power consumption.

Many manufacturers have gone into battle by releasing their own wave makers, but which one is the best wave maker for aquariums?

There are so many wave makers. Which one suits you? Hopefully today’s post, best aquarium wave maker reviews, will clear all of this up for you to decide which wave generator will work best for your aquarium.

Top 10 Best Aquarium Wave Maker Reviews for Freshwater & Saltwater Aquariums

What is an Aquarium Wave Maker?

The fish will always be in constant motion and some kind of wave will form as they move. In open water, such as the sea or lake, fish like waves because they help them move around easily.

It would be great to mimic that movement in the aquarium. Here you can use the aquarium wave generator.

The wave generator consists of a drive head that acts as a pump to create waves in the water. You can always get a model depending on the size of the aquarium so that you have created the best waves for the fish.

Benefits of Using Wave Maker in Aquarium

  1. One thing that will lead more people to choose the wave maker is that the fish is familiar with currents and waves in the water. The fish will also tend to thrive as it is something they like. Being in a habitat everyone knows does the same.
  2. The wave generator helps corals and invertebrates access nutrients in the tank. This is because corals and invertebrates cannot really move to where the nutrients are. Now you can be sure that the nutrients are getting where they are.
  3. Helps remove dead spots from water. The blind spots in this case are those areas that do not move. These areas are unlikely to be healthy for fish because they lack fresh oxygen. The wave generator helps circulate oxygen in that area.
  4. Well, you may also notice that the waves make the aquarium a beautiful sight to behold. Many people who visit your home will always be interested to see how the wave generator works. The plants will move with the fish and the fish will be more vibrant too.

Factors to Consider when Buying a Wavemaker

  1. Price: Some wave generators are extremely cheap, while others are very expensive.
  2. Warranty: A manufacturer who makes a reliable golf generator backs its golf makers with a solid warranty
  3. Durability: What are the field-proven histories of these units? Have they been working for years, or do they go out every 6 months? If they break easily, are they cheap enough to be considered disposable?
  4. Safety: This is not a major concern with AC powered wave generators, but DC powered wave generators have their own power source. You must ensure that the power supply is properly sealed at the connection point and that the unit is ETL or UL certified. The ETL or UL classification ensures that your insurance covers any accident.

7. Reef Octopus Octo Pulse Wave Pump

Best Aquarium Wave Maker

Reef Octopus, best known for its protein skimmers and return pumps, has entered the field of wave pumps.

The Octo Pulse line is designed around a cage-enclosed propeller pump.

The pump motor is located in the aquarium. It is attached to the glass with a magnetic holder.

The Octo Pulse has an adjustability of 25 degrees to aim at the aquarium. The pump body can be rotated 360 degrees.

These pumps are intended for reef aquarists and can also be used in freshwater aquariums.

The OctoPulse is connected to a controller with four preprogrammed flow modes. These include Constant, Current, Tide and Random.

The controller can be used to increase the flow. The energy mode can be set to 15 or 60 minutes. There are eight flow rate presets to choose from.

8. IceCap Gyre Flow Pump

Best Aquarium Wave Maker

Reef aquariums need a steady stream of water to maintain healthy coral growth.

Wave generators and traditional powerheads direct the flow of water in a narrow pattern that affects only small areas of the reef.

Powerheads are often too strong for direct contact with corals and must be aimed away from the reef, stagnating areas with little current.

The Ice Sheet Spin Generating Flow Pump uses “cross flow technology” to circulate a large volume of water through the reef without creating high pressure “hot spots” that damage corals and other invertebrates.

The Gyre system moves the aquarium water in a horizontal pattern across the reef. The water flow contacts the other side of the aquarium and circulates to the pump. This is called the spin flow pattern. The wave generator is controlled by the advanced Gyre controller.

9. EcoTech VorTech Marine Wireless Wavemaker

Best Aquarium Wave Maker

EcoTech Marine developed the first controllable water circulation pump that placed the motor outside the aquarium.

They offer four magnetically coupled propeller pump models suitable for a wide variety of aquarium sizes.

There are no electrical cables in the aquarium. Vortech pumps use QuietDrive motors, which are magnetically coupled to the pump housing in the tank.

This technical achievement eliminates the problem of voltage leakage from traditional “cast-in” drive heads and submersible pumps. It also prevents the heat generated by the drive motor from being transferred to the aquarium water.

This is a great feature for nano aquariums with small amount of water and large tanks with bright lighting.

Vortech pumps come with a wireless controller that includes preprogrammed flow modes. You don’t have to do anything but plug in the pump to get it going.

EcoTech was the first to create reef-specific water flow modes.

10. Sicce Voyager Power Stream Pump

Best Aquarium Wave Maker

Sicce has a long history of making high quality water pumps for the aquarium hobby.

Voyager Stream Pumps is Sicce’s version of aquarium circulators. You will immediately notice that the design looks very different from typical “caged impeller” circulators.

The end of the business, where the water comes out, looks more like a Gatling gun than a water pump.

The water outlet is a series of ports arranged in a circle. The gates don’t turn, but they serve a purpose. The water flow can be reduced by turning the pump outlet, which closes the ports.

So, what’s the problem? The Voyager Flow Pump delivers a large (adjustable) volume of water in a wide flow pattern.

Unlike powerheads and some circulators, Voyagers won’t dump water in a small spot in your planted reef or aquarium.

Voyager flow pumps start with the correct rotation, eliminating loud chatter. The pumps are attached to the aquarium with the usual magnetic holder through the glass.

Sicce uses strong magnets and high-quality rubber to survive in salt water without hardening or becoming brittle. The pumps have an orientation radius of 180 degrees.

An important note. The pump is cradled in a yoke. The wing nut securing the pump to the bracket can be over-tightened causing deformation of the pump housing. This can cause a clicking noise. Do not overtighten the wing nut! These are simple water pumps to set and forget.

They have no programmed modes or wireless controls. But you can control them with the Sicce Wave Surfer controller. Adjustment of the water movement is possible by setting change intervals, 4 minutes feeding mode and 8 hours slow flow night mode.

Best Aquarium Wavemakers (Our Recommendation)

How To Install an Aquarium Wavemaker

Wavemakers are extremely easy to install. Depending on whether you have a suction cup model or a magnetically coupled model, the installation differs slightly. With suction cups, just stick them on the aquarium glass / acrylic. They may have a button or tab that allows you to add extra suction, but that’s basically all.

For magnets, it is even easier if you place the dry side magnet on the outside of the tank and the wet side magnet on the inside of the tank. Once the wet and dry ends have done their thing, all you have to do is adjust the height of the wave generator on the dry and wet side while moving the wave generator to the desired position.

Choosing the best location for your aquarium wavemakers is a bit of a complicated matter. I am going to focus on saltwater aquariums as current is very important to corals.

What Size Wavemaker for Aquarium?

You do not have to worry much about this as the manufacturer always indicates this on the wave generator.

For example, a wave generator with a flow rate of 800 gallons per hour would be perfect for 30-60 gallon aquariums. Powerful wave generators are often reserved for larger aquariums.

Where do you place Wavemaker in the aquarium?

When it comes to placing the wave generator in the aquarium, there is a lot to do to find the right spot.

It may not be easy at first as not all places will generate the correct waves you may want. Some positions would mean creating high waves hitting the glass, causing a lot of noise. So, it’s a bit of trial and error until you find the area that works well.

While they do tend to vary in size and price, there are few differences from any of the models reviewed. You just need to choose the one that you think will effectively meet your needs.

You still need to consider the size of the aquarium to determine which model would be perfect. Go ahead and choose a wave generator that will make your tank perform even better.

Why Should You Buy An Best Aquarium Sump Pump?

We have identified several reasons why you may need a collection pump for your aquarium. You will normally find these useful devices at home as they can make your job easier when it comes to caring for a fresh or saltwater aquarium. The sump pump allows you to fish your reef tank or just plain. Now we can consider the reasons and the main activities:

  • Will remove the top; In this way it removes all slag from the surface; You only see crystal clear water.
  • Increase the water volume – the pump reduces the build-up of contaminants.
  • Temperature drops – When you install the sump pump, you’ll see the temperature drop by 16.6 ° C or 2 ° F in no time.
  • Stow the Equipment – Devices such as protein skimmers, heaters, ground probe monitoring probes, and others can be moved to the basement.
  • Constant water level: this way the display tank will always keep the same water level.
  • You Can Pour Additives – By adding new water or chemicals, such as deionized reverse osmosis, into the sump, all the “ingredients†can be mixed before the display tank shows it.
  • Increases oxygenation: When water enters the aquarium sump, the air mixes. This is what ensures a favorable gas exchange, releasing carbon dioxide and adding new carbon dioxide.
  • Circulation Increases – Return water from the sump pump is another option for moving water in your tank. Instead of putting in a bad drive head, you can point the return outlet in different directions to create water movement.

How to Choose an Aquarium Sump Pump?

Before you start choosing the right Best Aquarium Sump Pump, it’s important to understand what a crankcase is for first so you can determine if you really need one and what type of configuration would benefit your tank.

What is a receptacle for?

There are a few different uses for an aquarium sump. They are usually located below or next to the main aquarium because the water goes from the aquarium to the sump and vice versa.

A sump can be used as a separate space to hold all the equipment your tank needs to function, so you don’t have to take up valuable space in the tank or deal with something nasty hanging from the tank.

A catch pan can also be used to set up a filtration system and is an effective way to increase the water volume for a more stable setup, which is especially helpful when working with something more delicate like a reef tank.

What should I consider when choosing a collection pump?

Choosing a sump pump isn’t as difficult as it sounds. Here are some things to keep in mind:

1. Immersed or dry? Some sump pumps need to be submerged to work properly, while others can run wet or dry. This is based entirely on personal preference, but you should have an idea of what your settings will be before deciding.

2. Rate. How many gallons per hour of power do you need? Many of these pumps are adjustable and will give you some headroom, but making sure the pump is powerful enough to support your setup is essential.

3. Pre-filter. Pre-filters are very important as they protect the inside of the pump from the ingress of dirt. Some of these pumps have one included. Otherwise, you will have to provide one yourself.

4. Operating temperature. Since your sump pump comes into contact with the same water that circulates through your aquarium, it is important that it stays cool so that it does not affect the water temperature.

5. Sound. In general, it is preferable to have a pump that runs quietly so that it does not disturb you or the fish and other creatures that live in your tank. Many of these pumps are quite quiet, but this is not always the case.

Conclusion

Setting up the correct sump can make your aquarium easier to maintain and keep the water in perfect balance for your fish and corals to thrive. The most important part of any pumping system is the pump.

In fresh water tanks, this ensures that the water level remains stable, so that your filtration can work optimally and your tank does not dry out completely.

Replacing evaporated water can be very tedious, especially for those with larger aquariums. Auto Top Off System make it easy for you to handle without having to lug around a bucket of water every day. However, you must be very diligent with the system you choose. Best Auto Top Off System Reviews

1. Tunze 3155.000 Osmolator Auto Top Off System

Best Auto Top Off System

Tunze is a company that has been producing finishing systems since 1985. They are at the top of their game. The 3155 Tunze Osmolator is the world’s gold standard for Auto Top Off System.

The Osmolator is safe and reliable. It is a product that has been tested and built over many years and many previous models. The Osmolator is small at 4x1x2.5 inches in size and weighs less than 3 pounds. It is a single compact unit.

The Osmolator uses a set of two sensors to detect the water level. The main sensor is a mini infrared optical sensor that can provide very precise control. The second sensor is a float sensor, which serves as a backup sensor to measure the water level.

The Osmolator is easy to set up. The unit comes with magnetic brackets for easy and convenient installation. It comes with a complete hose, pump and feeding package. It not only recognizes the falling level of the water, but also effectively pumps water from the external source into the tank.

This product is one of the best on the market. Hence, it may be a bit more expensive compared to other products. The price is on the high side for an Auto Top Off System. However, you know you’re getting what you pay for, so the expensive label won’t disappoint you when it comes to product quality in this case.

Benefits

  1. High-quality construction
  2. Small in size
  3. Easy installation
  4. Accurate estimate of the water level

Cons

  1. Expensive

2. Tunze USA 3152.000 Automatic Top Off Nano Osmolator

Best Auto Top Off System

This is another product from the Tunze company. As mentioned earlier, Tunze has been manufacturing Auto Top off systems since 1985 and have built a reputation in the market. The Tunze 3152 system is one of their two best-selling Auto Top Off System.

This model is small at only 1.5 x 1.2 x 2.5 cm and weighs less than 2 pounds. It can be installed on a cabinet filter or right on the edge of the aquarium. The bracket / holder is magnetic, making installation easy and can be mounted on a glass wall up to 3/8 inch thickness.

The device comes with two sensors. The main one is a mini infrared optical sensor that can provide accurate water level control. There is also a backup sensor that floats in the water. Two-layer sensors make the system fail-safe and keep the quality of the entire system constant.

The device is very energy efficient. It only works with an 11V power supply and the pump is also on low voltage. It also runs fairly quietly so you don’t have to worry about system noise disturbing those around you.

This device is very small and handy and there is a trade off for that size. This Auto Top Off System can only work efficiently with a tank size up to 55 gallons. It can work in larger tanks, but the quality is not efficient enough for the whole tank and malfunctions can occur.

If your tank is less than 55 liters, this device is still a very good option as the price is much cheaper than its brother that can work in larger tanks.

Benefits

  1. High-quality construction
  2. Small and favorable price
  3. Easy installation
  4. Quiet

Cons

  1. Only work efficiently in tanks up to 55 gallons

It is designed to monitor evaporated water and replenish it every day. This way you don’t have to manually add water to keep the water stable.

This ATO is a well thought-out system that is fully automated. It also includes a fail-safe design that uses two optical sensors. They regulate the water level of the receptacle and / or the aquarium.

Typically, the second sensor is there to provide real-time monitoring and protection in the event that the first sensor fails. There are no moving parts with this system, which prevents downtime.

If your fill tank is too low, the unit will warn you so that your sump / aquarium does not dry out. Moreover, it is easy to install. You don’t have to be a professional plumber or electrician to plug in and mount the sensors.

6. EPTTECH Aquarium Marine Reef Fish Tank Automatic Auto Top Off Water

Best Auto Top Off System

When you buy EPTTECH Auto Top Off Water, you get everything you need.

This includes the pump, ATO controller, power supply (plug), a hose holder and the hose itself. So you do not have to go out to buy a new pump.

As with some ATOs, the wiring is large or long enough to reach the aquarium. This can cause major problems over time. However, this product does not have that problem.

The magnetic installation makes it very easy to place in your aquarium or fish tank. In addition, you can place the sensors where you need them most. One thing to consider is that the place where the ATO will be installed must be clean and transparent.

You will find that this product has AFS (Auto Feedback Security) technology. It is a safety feature to ensure real-time protection against failure. Two alerts are available, including a red and a blue LED.

Blue light indicates that there has been a period of no-fill that is twice as long since the last fill. The red LEDs are there to indicate that there has been a flood somewhere in the system.

Benefits

  1. Well built unit
  2. Small pump (included) works fine
  3. Ease
  4. Compact design

Cons

  1. Magnetic parts can break and expose the iron core

  3. Hard to understand instructions

7. JBJ Auto Top Off – Budget Friendly ATO

Best Auto Top Off System

JBJ’s Auto Top Off System is one of the leading entry-level Auto Top Off System on the market. This system differs from the others on this list in that it has two manual float switches that are activated when the water level rises. There are no digital sensors in this Auto Top top of the system. In fact, I don’t mind dual floating sensors and with the two types of settings you can do with this ATO system, you can have a fairly complete testing and redundant system.

Another great feature is that this system is easy to adjust. You can change the sleep timer by extending the time on the controller and adjusting the shutdown with a screwdriver and you can also set an alarm when the ATO is on. That’s a really great feature for monitoring and preventing flooding if the float switches fail.

The controller will have an audible alarm if the maximum float switch is tripped and both float switches are reversible if required. It really offers a lot for its price.

What I don’t like about this system is that you have to buy a pump and the mounting options aren’t that great. There is a suction cup mount option, which I wouldn’t recommend, and the bracket mount options just don’t look very nice to look at and can get weird if you have a rimless tank or crankcase. The lack of a pump generally confuses me with Auto Top Off System. I tend to lean on systems that come with pumps as they take the guesswork out of having to do.

Benefits

  1. Fair price
  2. Easily customizable and personalized
  3. Auto Top Off System shut-off function

Cons

  1. Suction cup mounts (use mounts instead!)
  2. Does not contain a pump

8. Hydor Smart Level Controller – Dual Sensor ATO For A Reasonable Price

Best Auto Top Off System

The Hydor Smart Level Controller is an ATO system that uses a dual sensor to control the water level in your aquarium. The sensors are contained in a single plug, making them easy to install. It is a sump based ATO system so I would not recommend it for use in the tank as the alarm level is set very high when used in an aquarium. It has a double alarm system with light and sound. The sensors are not affected by the waves in the tank.

What I don’t like about this Auto Top Off System is that it doesn’t come with a pump. You have to buy it separately, so the price may not be as high as it sounds if you buy a more expensive pump. The switch holder is also a hybrid magnet / extractor. I prefer a real magnetic holder.

Benefits

  1. Fair price
  2. Alarm
  3. Dual sensors

Cons

  1. Without manual switch
  2. Not a real magnetic switch bracket
  3. Exclusive pump!

9. Autoaqua Smart Automatic Top Off System

Best Auto Top Off System

This is not just an Auto Top Off System. It’s a smart ATO. Includes the pump and hoses, which can pump at speeds of 74 gph to a delivery head of 2.5 feet. It also has a universal bracket.

In addition, it uses a unique non-contact digital sensor. It also has built-in Auto Feedback Security (AFS) technology for real-time failsafe protection.

Benefits

  1. Since it comes with a pump, all you need is a bucket for the water in your aquarium.
  2. The sensor contains no moving parts and there is absolutely no risk of voltage leakage.
  3. Gives a warning if it is not filled or if the filling time is too long.
  4. It also comes with a 2-year warranty.

Cons

  1. You will run into the same problem with Autoaqua Smart: it is not that reliable. It may work for a while and then it may not.
  2. And then you might have some rust problems in about a year or 18 months.

10. Aquarium Triple Sensor Auto Top Off Water Filler

Best Auto Top Off System

The Triple Sensor Auto Fill Aquarium Water Filler is an ideal solution for your aquarium. This smart water refill device meets the needs of those who don’t always want to refill their tanks due to evaporation.

Three sensors are included, so you never have to worry about mistakes. The optical level sensor monitors the water level and determines whether the water needs to be topped up. In addition, the S1 sensor prevents flooding, while the S3 sensor monitors water shortages throughout the system.

You will also find an alarm and various status indicators to prevent errors. For example, indications have been included for an overflow sensor and a missing pump. If an abnormal situation occurs, the buzzer will sound and the LED will light.

This product has an all-in-one system. The package includes a power adapter, controller, tube holder and charging pump. Plus, you also get a PVC tube, three sensors, and a magnetic base.

Although you will need to install the product, it is quite easy to do this. The instructions are clear and concise. You also do not need to adjust or program the product before using it.

Benefits

  1. Alarm for any problem
  2. Magnetic sensors stay where they are
  3. Three sensors included

Cons

  1. Confusing instructions
  2. Design errors for the placement of the optical sensor and float valve

What is an Auto Top Off System?

Water evaporates at any temperature. To maintain an aquarium or aquatic aquarium, this water feature can be problematic. Every day there will be less and less water in your aquarium.

And if the water gets too low, it can pose a serious problem for your fish and aquatic plants. To save anglers from this problem, the Auto Top Off System (ATO) was invented for the best convenience of all.

An Auto Top Off System is a system designed to Auto Top Off System detect the water level in your tank with a sensor. Whenever the sensor detects that the water level falls below a certain point, the system automatically replaces the evaporated water so that the water level in the tank can return to the optimum level.

Without this system, you may have to carry a bucket of water, pour into the tank, and clean up any spilled liquids. Having to do that almost every day can be a daunting task. But with an Auto Top Off System you don’t have to do all those things. Salinity is also stable with the system. The Auto Top Off System prevents the pump from drying out.

The Auto Top Off System is not only useful for your daily life to maintain your aquarium, but it is also especially useful when you are not at home. You can set up an Auto Top Off System fish feeder on the go, but it won’t do much for your fish if you return to a fully vaporized, waterless tank.

The Auto Top Off System ensures that the tank is filled with water and does not allow the tank to dry out and destroy the habitat of your fish and aquatic plants.

What is the Best Auto Top Off System?

When choosing the best auto fill system for you and your tank, keep the following in mind:

What’s in the package?

Typically, the base kit for an auto-fill system package would include a self-leveling controller, one or two sensors, and mounting hardware.

Sometimes the complete package also includes a pump and hoses. The pump is an accessory that you should pay attention to. If you already have a pump with you, you do not need the supplied pump.

But if you don’t already have one, choosing a complete package including one included can save you a lot of time setting up the system.

How does the installation process go?

Would you mind getting everything ready and complicated during the installation process?

If you are a crafty person then you don’t have to worry about which choice to choose this step because you can do it all. However, if you’re not the smartest person ever, opting for something easy to install and configure on your tank can save you a lot of energy and effort. Many systems come with magnetic supports. They are very easy and simple to install.

How big is your tank?

Usually the Auto Top Off System does not take the size of the tank into account. But bombs do.

So check the system pumps or the pumps you already have, see what their options are. If the pumps are too weak, it will take a long time to fill the tank.

What is your budget?

As when buying anything, you need to consider your budget. There are quite a few other accessories you should buy for your aquarium, so don’t let the auto fill system take up your entire budget. Pick one that you can easily afford.

How to Set Up an Auto Top off System?

1. Remove all your supplies from the box. Before installing anything, turn on all units and test the sensors and pump to see if they work. If there are noises or a light alarm, check if they are likely to work. It is much easier now to test the device than it is to have to take them out of the tank later because they are not working properly.

2. Just prepare an empty tank. Do not fill it with water yet. It is safer and easier to work with an empty tank during setup.

3. Have a reservoir of fresh water ready next to your aquarium. It can be a bucket or a large pitcher. The smaller the opening, the better with the reservoir, as the water is more difficult to evaporate and you need to replace the reservoir less often. I recommend using a jug with a small lid, similar to a gas bottle. Drill or cut a hole in the cap, large enough for the tube to pass through later. With the lid closed, the exposed water surface is limited and therefore the evaporation of the water from the tank is kept to a minimum.

4. There would be two sensors with the device. They must float in the water for the whole unit to function properly. Put one in the fresh water tank. The other should be installed in the crankcase just above the waterline. Sometimes some devices come with special or smart sensors that work differently from the other commonly used sensors. If so, read the supplied manual carefully to set them up correctly. The sensors are the most important part of the whole system.

5. Prepare to install the pump. There should be two outlets on the pump: the “inlet” and the “outlet”. Route the hose from the fresh water tank to the “inlet” of the pump. Then run another tube from the “outlet” of the pump to the crankcase. Try to keep the hose above the waterline when installing the outlet hose. If the tube is submerged it is possible to create a siphon on the back and accidentally suck all the water from the tank into the reservoir, which is the opposite of what we want to do with the system.

6. Connect the device to an electrical outlet. Make sure your hands are dry when you connect the device. Also make sure there is no water near the outlet. It can be dangerous so there is no harm in double checking.

7. Finally fill the reservoir with fresh water and your Auto Top Off System is ready for use.

Conclusion

An best Auto Top Off System is not an absolute accessory for your tank, but it is very handy and handy. With an Auto Top Off System, you almost never have to worry about your tank again during a long absence.

If you are looking for an ATO system, do your research and answer all the questions I mentioned earlier in “What is the Best Auto Fill System?” Section. You can also read people’s reviews and comments about products online to learn more about the product’s quality, strengths, and weaknesses.

When you buy one, make sure you’re happy with your choice. And a good quality functional ATO system will ease your mind and keep your fish and plants happy and healthy in your tank.
